I thought this was an informative essay, but the title and conclusion that the "poorest are not worth saving" is a vast and unfair generalization. You ultimately show a bizarre lack of empathy for those that have been victimized and in your own words: gaslight(ed).

You focus on the conservative government and politicians' manipulations of the economically depressed English populace, but then blame working class Northerners, what?

I have no pity for true racists and hateful people, but after establishing their victimization you throw them to the wolves. Educated progressives must find some ground for solidarity with the working classes.

Finally, the phrase "they are not worth saving" is extremely condescending and patronizing. So you are saying that YOU and your class can save them, but you won't? The point is that we need each other to save everyone.
